Sanctions were meant to be 'No more than necessary' according to the EU Universal Declaration.

More than 211,000 people signed a Change.org petition started by Gill Thompson after her diabetic brother, David Clapson, 59, was found dead in his home.

Mr Clapson, of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, who worked for 29 years, died three weeks after his £71.70 weekly allowance was stopped. When his body was found by a friend, his electricity card was out of credit, which meant the fridge where he kept the insulin on which his life depended had not been working. This incident along with others cases that have resulted in suicides, we hope will lead to a full and thorough review of the sanctions system by the DWP Work & Pensions select committee. The sanction system is cruel and unjust and need to be changed. The sooner the better.
